Another in the New Zealand series. I'd never seen a black swan before, but they were all over the place on the lakes in the Rotorua area. I took lots of photos of this family, trying to get one with the parents' necks lined up just right so they were in the shape of a heart enclosing their babies. I did get one like that, but in the end I liked this one better. Sometimes perfect symmetry works in a photo; more often a little asymmetry is better.

Black swans with cygnets
Another in the New Zealand series. I'd never seen a black swan before, but they were all over the place on the lakes in the Rotorua area. Rosie, this is lovely! It brings back lots of beautiful thoughts & memories, such as The Trumpet of the Swan by A. A. Milne, which made swans such an indelible part of my imagination of the perfect. There were many many swans this summer in Stratford, gathering in grubby clumps like geese. But the only Black Swan I've ever seen was in Florida, I think, on a very dreamy vacation. ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Thanks for the comment. I know I read The Trumpet of the Swan as a kid, but I don't remember it at all. I have very poor recall of any book I didn't read more than once from back then. I guess I just didn't pay much attention.
ReplyDeleteOh, I need at least two, usually three, readings, to make a book "stick." Not so with an image! & yet I'm a text-based learner....
